A seven-day hike to the Big and Small Thach – well suited to begin exploring the mountains of the Caucasus, it is an affordable and very picturesque route. The Thach massif is located on the border of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory. The highest point of our route will be Bolshoi Thach, its height is 2368 m, and the wall length is 10-12 km. The Thach massif is listed by the World Wildlife Fund as a World Heritage Site. And that means there is something to see! These are alpine meadows with medicinal plants, caves and eternal snows, stunning mountain panoramas, this is an opportunity to see wild animals – chamois, mountain goats, hares.

If you go here in May, it will be almost summer-like warm and green, only in some places we can come across the remnants of snow – pieces of winter in the middle of the Caucasian summer.

Day 1. Novoprokhladnoe – Sakhra River – Mankin Noise Waterfall

Meeting of the group at the railway station of Krasnodar. We move to the village Novoprokhladnoe, located Adygea. We start here. The first day of the trip will be eventful. We cross the spectacular suspension bridge over the Sahra River and exit to the Mankin Shum waterfall. We will arrange a halt nearby, if you wish, you can swim under its invigorating jets. Next, we are waiting for crossing the Sahra River, in its upper reaches we will stop for the night.

Day 2. Windy Shelter

After water procedures in the river, we will go along an abandoned dirt road to the Vetrennoy shelter. The trail goes through a fir-beech forest, then we’ll go to the foot of the Bolshoi Thach mountain and the bell tower. We will rise to Vetrennoy shelter to admire wonderful views of the Lago-Naki plateau. Here our shelter will stay overnight, from here it is very nice to watch sunsets and sunrises from an elevation.

Day 3. Mountain Big Thach (2368 m)

Today we’ll leave our backpacks in the camp and lightly climb Mount Big Thach, it offers incredible panoramas of the surrounding mountains. In good clear weather, we can even see the highest peak in Russia and Europe – Elbrus. We spend the night again in the shelter Windy.
