Hiking Shoes

Outsole differences overview

Imagine a situation: you are sitting at home in a comfortable armchair with a purring cat, drinking fragrant tea, looking at photos of Iceland or Kamchatka, and here you have a brilliant idea – should I go camping?

If this thought firmly settled in your soul, and you are determined to go somewhere, then it’s time to go to the stage of preparing the equipment! Let’s start with the most important thing: these are hiking shoes.

Mountain boots, first of all, should be distinguished by good durability, because the loads in a hike with a heavy backpack are much more than usual. Imagine what a tourist will do when his shoe suddenly peels off while hiking, and there are more than a dozen kilometers to a populated area. And mountain boots should be of a rigid construction to protect the legs from injuries.

Currently, manufacturers produce hiking shoes of various levels of difficulty, ranging from hiking to high-altitude mountaineering. How are they all different and how to choose the right shoes for your trip?

Hiking shoes

These are high sneakers, to which a more massive tread and an upper laced above the bone are added. Most often they are made with mesh inserts and they can be used as basic shoes for hiking in the flat terrain in the warm season without heavy backpacks.

Trekking or hiking boots

They are heavier than sneakers, most often made of natural (thin leather, suede) materials, equipped with a special technological sole and this is probably the most versatile mountain shoes. In them you can confidently conquer the expanses of Georgia, Nepal, Norway, and even go hiking in Iceland, where the presence of lava fields requires shoes with good depreciation.

Heavy hiking boots

Very durable, waterproof, insulated shoes for off-road and snowy mountain expanses. It is made entirely of leather, almost always with a rubberized toe, with a high top and a stiff, almost stiff sole, in which there is a metal plate for reinforcement and welts for attaching cats or snowshoes.

Mountaineering boots

Most often they consist of two parts – an external plastic and an internal synthetic or leather boot. The outer part protects the leg from damage and fixes it securely, while the inner serves as an insulating layer.
